- controls blood volume & maintains blood pressure

2. removal of poisons that have been absorbed in the small intestines (filter system)
3. storage of vitamins
4. production of heparin
5. production of antibodies ( act against infection & foreign matter)

- drains excess fluid & protein so tissues don't swell up

- carry blood from the lower chambers of the heart to all parts of the body

- chief filtering mechanism of the kidney
What is the function of the small intestines?

- receives juices from the pancreas, liver, & gallbladder, which aid in further chemical breakdown of the chyme. This is where most absorption takes place.
What is the function of the spleen?
- filters microorganisms & waste products from the blood
- makes lymphocytes and monocytes to help defend (the body) itself against microorganisms

- carry blood from all different parts of the body & return it to the heart
What is the function of the urinary bladder?
- muscular sac that expands to hold urine received from the kidneys
What is the function of the large intestine?
What is:
- absorbs water, mineral salts, & vitamins
- secretes mucus to aid in the movement of feces through the intestine

- to produce mature T lymphocytes( white blood cells that help the immune system fight off illness)
What is the function of the capillaries?
What is:
- allow nutrients, oxygen, & carbon dioxide to move in and out of the blood
