On the "Day of Atonement" two goats were selected, lots were cast, and the name of Jehovah was placed upon one goat (or Ram of Consecration); this is what the other goat was called (or Azazel).
The Lord’s goat was then sacrificed as the Great Jehovah would be in due course, but upon the other were placed all of the sins of the people (priest's laid their hands on it's head and laid all their sins on him), which burden the goat then carried away into the wilderness. (Was driven into the wilderness)

What is the scapegoat?
A type of apron with gold woven into the material worn by Aaron and subsequent high priests . It had two shoulder straps, each containing an onyx stone inscribed with the names of half the tribes of Israel. It was worn over a seamless blue robe, and tied with a "girdle" (sash). A breastplate with twelve precious stones and a White linen coat on top. (A Mitre and a golden crown finished the sacred outfit).
What is an Ephod?
It divided the holy place from the Holy of Holies. It symbolized the “separation between God and man.” Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest would pass through it to enter the Holy of Holies (which represented God’s presence).
The epistle to the Hebrews teaches that it also symbolized the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ. Just as it gave the high priest access to the Holy of Holies, it is only through Jesus Christ and His Atonement that we can enter God’s presence.
