Think of our government as a clay figure. The Articles of Confederation weren't working, and formed a disfigured model. A Federal Convention was held. The arguments at that convention shaped our government into the relative shape it is today. The Constitution added detail. The Federalists and Anti-Federalists added another part to our model. The Bill of Rights added detail to this extra part. The base structure has remained relatively the same, even to today.
