SLD
Specific Learning Disabilities; refers to students who have significant difficulties with listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities
ASL
American Sign Language- a visual gestural language with its own rules; does not correspond to written or spoken language
ITP
Individualized Transition Plan:developed for SPED students that will help them set goals and transition successfully into post-high school life.
RTI
Response to Intervention; program that identifies students with learning disabilities by looking at how well they respond to evidence-based academic interventions
HTL
Hearing Threshold Level- smallest sound a person with normal hearing can perceive
SOP
Summary of Performance: an educational agency shall provide the child with a summary of their academic achievement and functional performance; includes recommendations on how to assist the child in their post secondary goals.
NJCLD
National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities; a committee composed of 11 organizations committed to the education and welfare of individuals with learning disabilities
NTID
National Technical Institute for the Deaf: provides wide-ranging programs in technical, vocational, and business-related fields
DCDT
The Council for Exceptional Children's Division on Career Development and Transition: recommends that career development and transition services begin in the elementary grades for all children with disabilities
GNs
Guided notes; teacher-prepared handouts that provide an outline of the lecture content
NIHL
Noise Induced Hearing Loss: caused by chronic exposure to recreational and occupational; noise often occurs gradually
APSE
Association for Persons in Supported Employment: provides advocacy and education concerning the value of integrated employment and addresses issues issues to expand the growth and implementation of integrated employment services
CBM
Curriculum-based measurement; entails measuring growth of students' proficiency in the core skills that contribute to success in school
SRT
Speech Reception Threshold: the lowest decibel level at which the individual can repeat half of the words; is measured and recorded for each ear

Job Accommodation Network: provides free, expert, and confidential guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues
