Answer this electrics problem:
The lighting designer has asked us to patch a total of FIVE 575 watt instruments to a single circuit in our theater. Each of our circuits is rated for carrying 20 amps of current, with an output voltage of 120 volts. Will this be safe? Why or why not?
NOT SAFE!
Why? The circuit capacity is 2400 watts (120 volts x 20 amps), but the load of the five instruments would be 2875 watts (575 x 5). The 5 instruments would overload the circuit by 475 watts.
What is a two-fer and how does it work?
A Y-shaped cable with two female plugs and one male plug. This allows for two lighting instruments to be connected to one circuit without multiplexing, so both instruments will turn on when the one circuit is given power.
What does the block diagram show?
