The colonists did not get along with the soldiers and vice versa. In Boston, Massachusetts, the colonists made fun of the soldiers, and laughed at their red coats and called them "lobsterbacks."

Why did each country want the Ohio River Valley land?

Great Britain- They knew the ORV land had rich soil that the colonists could use for farming.

France- They had been trapping animals and trading furs for many years with Canada, so they thought they had the right to trap beaver in the ORV too.

What eventually happened to the Stamp Act?

Nine colonies held a meeting called the Stamp Act Congress. They wanted Parliament to know they didn't think it was fair for the colonists to be paying taxes without having representatives to vote. The King of England and Parliament were surprised by their anger, and they repealed (cancelled) the Stamp Act in 1766.

He went to Great Britain to ask for fair treatment of the colonies. He persuaded (convinced) Parliament to repeal (cancel) unfair laws, and he helped get the Stamp Act repealed.

France:

1) They had settlements near the Ohio River Valley, so they could send help quickly (Advantage)

2) The settlements were all under control of one government, so decisions were made quickly (Advantage)

3) Food was shipped from France, so sometimes they did not have enough for the soldier (Disadvantage)
