labeling that describes newly approved uses or other changes, such as reduced and/or increased pre harvest intervals, added since the last accepted master label was reviewed and approved by the agency.
Must bear a statement referring the user to the product label for complete directions, precautions & a statement notifying the user that the labeling MUST be in his/her possession
Supplemental Labeling
Precise application to a specific area or site (fence line, guardrail) often using specialized equipment
Directed Application
the area treated by application equipment in ONE pass
Swath
a pest population level that requires action to prevent unacceptable injury or harm
Threshold
the technical name that identifies the chemical formula and structure of a pesticide active ingredient
chemical name
side-to-side measurement of the band or strip of pesticide released by application equipment
Swath Width
Inactive component of a formulated pesticide product added to dilute the pesticide or to make it safer, more effective, and/or easier to handle.
* Has no effect on target pests*
Inert Ingredients
Application of a pesticide to a long narrow strip. Example: over or between crop rows
Band Application
to kill prevent or lessen the harmful effects of, to destroy, or to repel an undesirableundesireableorganism
control
Evaporating rapidly; turning easily into a gas or vapor
Volatile
Uniform application of a pesticide to a wide or large area
Broadcast Application
change in body form during the life cycle of an organism.
There are two different types:
Metamorphasis
Complete & Gradual
the natural or genetic ability of an organism to tolerate toxic effects and/or pest attack
Resistance
a plant that lives for more than two years
Perennial
The span of spray or granules with enough pesticide to control the pest
Effective Swath Width
injury or damage to a sensitive plant caused by a chemical exposure
Phytotoxicity
Formulation
Homogeneous (uniform) mixture of 2 or more substances. Liquid solutions are transparent and do not separate if allowed to sit.
Solution
Having a high percentage of active ingredient
Concentrated
A plant that lives for more than two years
Perennial
an abnormal, unhealthy condition caused by an invading organism such as a bacterium or a virus
Able to dissolve in another substance, usually a liquid
Soluable
a short name given to a pesticide active ingredient that is officially accepted by the EPA
common (chemical) name
Also known as 42(c) registration, that allows states to expand or limit the uses of federally registered pesticides within their jurisdictions.
Good option to allow use of pesticides on regional crops, to manage localized pest problems, or both.
Special Local needs Registration
solid materials with one or more pesticide active ingredients incorporated into them.
ex. livestock ear tags, plastic pest strips, dog collars
