What are the Robot inspection and Field inspection?
The name of the document which memorializes the research, the day-to-day activities, the daily impressions, photos of the team's efforts, etc.
What is the "Engineering Notebook"? [Or the "Team Logbook"]
This judged award is given to the Team that best embodies the ‘challenge’ of the FIRST Tech Challenge program ... the Team is a strong ambassador for FIRST programs and a role model FIRST Team.
What is the Inspire Award?
This facial wear is required to enter the Pit Area.
What is safety glasses?
It is part of the ethos of FIRST.
It's a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.
What is Gracious Professionalism?
The name of the form presented to the Judges at the time of the Engineering Presentation.
What is the judging feedback request form? ["judging feedback form" is acceptable answer]
The name of document presented to the Judges in pursuit of an award.
What is the Engineering Portfolio?
This judged award is given to the Team that best connects with their local science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) community
What is the Connect Award?
The penalty for receiving a Red Card during a Competition.
What is disqualifiation from the competition?
Prior to competition, officials will determine--using the Robot Inspection Checklist--that the robot has no more than this many DC [drive] motors.
What is no more than 8 DC/drive motors?
According to Game Manual 1, the maximum height of the team's Pit.
What is 10 feet?
Not counting the Cover Sheet, the maximum number of pages the Engineering Portfolio normally may have.
What is 15?
This judged award is given to the Team that best reflects the journey the Team took as they experienced the engineering design process during the build season ... the engineering content within the portfolio is key ...
What is the Think Award?
According to Game Manual 1, teams should do this to identify teams potential Alliance partners having abilities that complement their team's own strengths.
What is scouting?
The award to which these criteria apply:
- Advanced software techniques/algorithms encouraged but not required.
- Demonstration of reliable control components.
- Lessons-learned (in the Engineering Portfolio) regarding what worked/what didn't with regards to sensors, hardware, algorithms, and code.
What is the Control Award?
The Inspection Checklist that requires that the REV Driver Hub, and REV Control Hub are named with the official team number followed by –DS or –RC as appropriate.
What is the Field Inspection Checklist?
On the FIRST website (under www.firstinspires.org), this is the name of webpage where students can find "Game Season and Materials" such as Game Manuals 1 and 2, inspection checklists, playing field information, and game element information.

This judged award celebrates a Team that thinks imaginatively and has the ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness to make their designs come to life.
What is the Innovate Award?
The amount of time a team is permitted between consecutive matches during a Competition.
What is a minimum of 5 minutes?
In an FTC Qualifier Tournament, list 2 of the 3 types of Matches.
What are Qualification Matches and Elimination Matches?

Judges observe and judge the team during the interview/presentation and by reviewing the Engineering Portfolio. According to Game Manual 1, the judges base team awards on these two other categories.
What are: (1) Additional interviews in the Pit Area, and (2) During Matches, team interaction, gracious professionalism between teammates, and robot performance?
While often included together with the Engineering Portfolio, the name of this form may appear to make your Engineering Portfolio greater than 16 pages.
What is the Control Award Submission Form?
(Maximum of 2 pages)
This judged award recognizes the inclusion of elements of the Robot that are both functional and aesthetic ... function + beauty.
What is the Design Award?
In the event of a scoring tie between two teams, this portion of the team's matches are averaged first to break the tie.
What is the average score of their Alliance's Autonomous Periods?
[If that's a tie, the 2nd tiebreaker is an average of their Alliance's End Game scores.]
It means that, as a student, you are:
- fostering life skills including self-confidence, communication, and leadership;
- inspiring innovation; and
- developing science, engineering, and technology skills
... It can be considered a slogan or tagline of FIRST Robotics.
