3w + 6 = 4w
W=6
a + 18 = 7a
a=3
8c = 5c + 21
c=7
11d + 10 = 6d
d=2
When you have 2a as a term, what is the original operation of this? What does it mean when a number and a variable are right next to each other? What's the operation?
Multiplication
What is the inverse operation of multiplication?
Division.
If you have 7b, what do I to this term to isolate the b?
Divide by 7.
t + 10 = 7t – 14
t=4
8z + 6 = 7z + 4
z=-2
If I am dividing a negative by a negative, will my answer be positive or negative?
2e – 12 = 7e + 8
e=-4
In a multi step equation, you will have to distribute and/or combine like terms. What would you do first?
distribute
5(x - 3) + 2x = 41
x=8
Distribute this: 9(2+2)
18+18
4a- 3(a - 2) = 2(3a – 2)
a=2
4(c + 12) = 2c + 18 −15
c=-15
7(d − 2) = 5(d + 2)
d=12
5p − 17 = 2(2p − 7)
p=3
4(3z − 2) = 9z − 7
z= .333 repeating on your calculator
7s + 2 = 4(s + 1)
s=2/3 or .66 repeating or .67
6(k + 1) = 2k + 7
k=.25
Food! But anything counts :). Sleep? Travel? Hot Chocolate? Movies?
You should be because these are your test questions!!!!!
If you see this problem on your test, what do you do first, second, third and fourth? What are the steps to solve? 4a- 3(a - 2) = 2(3a – 2)
First: distribute both sides
Second: Combine the like terms on one side of the equation
Third: Subtract the lower term with the variable to the other term with the variable on the other side.
Then solve 6=5a -4 by adding 4 to both sides to get 5a by himself, and then dividing by 5.
Will you use your notes and notebook for this test?
If not, Mrs. Saffell will be very disappointed.
