What kinds of prejudice did African Americans and Mexican
Americans experience in Texas in the early 20th century?
Both groups were victims of prejudice, discrimination, and segregation. The poll tax and threats of violence made it nearly impossible for African Americans and Mexican Americans to participate in politics. African Americans were forced to attend segregated schools, which were often poorly equipped. African American teachers received lower pay than did white teachers. Jim Crow laws
required segregation of public facilities.
