What is the Stamp Act?
These were groups of people that were loyal to Great Britain, and usually against independence.
Loyalists
In this event, the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Native Americans and threw 90,000 pounds of tea overboard a ship and into the Boston Harbor.
This was the last straw for the colonists. The British government:
1. Increased control in the colonies by sending more troops, forbidding the assemblies to meet
2. Had British soldiers tried for murder in Britain, not the colonies
3. Stopped assemblies from being able to meet in the colonies
4. Closed Boston Harbor to shipping until the ruined tea was paid for.
The Intolerable Acts
These people were mostly neutral about declaring independence from Britain.
During this event, representatives/leaders from 12 colonies came together to discuss what to do about British taxes. This was the first time the colonists thought of themselves as united people.
The First Continental Congress
In this act, colonists had to feed and house British soldiers.
The Quartering Act
These people were usually advocating to declare independence and oppose the British government.
The Patriots
In this event, some Native Americans helped the French and some Native Americans helped the British.
The French and Indian War
The Townshend Acts
This group was responsible for many protests against the British, such as the Boston Tea Party, trying to bury a tax collector alive, etc.
