The Pilgrims came to the US on the Mayflower, but didn't have enough food and didn't really know how to grow it or hunt for it, so many starved, got sick, and died. The Native Americans, who knew how to survive and grow crops, helped them. Then, in the autumn, when the crops were ready, the pilgrims invited the Native Americans to share in a feast. The Wampanoag people came, brought 5 deer as a gift, and they celebrated the first Thanksgiving in a 3-day festival.
