Nosebleed Seats

Sitting very far away

The American slang term 'nosebleed seats' is used to describe seats that are very far from the stage and very high up, often in the uppermost tiers of a stadium or theater. The joke behind the term is that these seats are so high that they could cause a nosebleed due to the altitude. The British equivalent to this term is sitting "in the gods". The origin of this British phrase is thought to come from the fact that these high, distant seats are 'closer to the gods'.
