Verbal irony is when the audience expects one thing to happen and then something unexpected happens.
WRONG
It's pouring rain outside. Wilson steps outside and says, "This is the most beautiful day I have ever seen!"
Verbal because it is sarcastic. He is stating the opposite of what is actually happening.
