Too much causes confusion in members, it is difficult to know where their relationship stands with a member that tells them everything all the time; It also may scare away others from disclosing when the vulnerability has not felt earned by others.

With maladaptive self disclosure, it is important the Therapist balance the idea of Freedom of speech with the responsbility members have to each other; working to help members understand why they chose ot self disclse in that moment and how it impacts the others.

Why is it important for a therapist to check in with themselves during the termination process or a sudden termination?

There are human feelings to be had when change happens, and the therapist is not immune to that.

By processing their own feelings first, they can shift focus to help maintain group integrity, promote member safety, and most importantly support the members' feelings towards the termination.
