What was the Silk Road? Why was it important? What happened to it?
The Silk Road was the main trade route from China to eastern Asia. It was important because European merchants wanted to trade with Chinese merchants. The Mongolian Empire protected the road but fell in the 1400s; travelling on the Silk Road became dangerous and very expensive.

How did Montezuma II, the Aztec ruler, treat the Spanish explorers? What happened?
He welcomed the Spanish explorers, however they took Montezuma prisoner and demanded gold for his freedom. Eventually the Aztec were able to drive the Spanish out, but thousands later died of smallpox.
