Getting Help in the Library
Do I need my student ID number for anything in the library?
Yes! Printing, checking out books, getting items on reserve...but we will also look you up if you don't know/have your number!
We post our jobs on Handshake, and typically hire student workers every semester.
I want to borrow a laptop. Can I?
Yes! We loan laptops...but there are times when they are all checked out (sorry)!
How can I find the library hours?
They are always kept updated on our library web page.
What does it mean if a book is on "reserve"?
A professor will put a book/DVD/etc. on reserve so that students in their class can access it. You may borrow it from the library front desk for a limited time.
Can I get help with research in the library even if the library is closed?
Yes! Use the "Ask a Librarian" button on the library home page to get connected to a college librarian anywhere, at (literally) any time!
We have fun/popular fiction books in the library. True or false?
True! Send us your suggestions, too!
I want a quiet place to study. Where can I do this?
We've got reservable study rooms in each library and also each library has a quiet floor (Troy) or space (Albany).
I can eat in the library.....right?
Yes!
Of course! If you have an internet connection and a computer/mobile device we've got you covered.
You should NEVER EVER EVER pay for an article you find online when you are an RSC student. True or false?
True! We can get it for you! Free! That's what libraries do!
I want to borrow a book. Is this actually a thing? Can I rent it?
Yes! You can check out up to 75 books. And you can renew them if you need to keep them longer than the usual 3-week loan period.
Is there a library cafe?
Yes, and no (Amy shall explain!).....

Yes! We don't have jobs if you don't need us. Ask us for help any time!
I want to print! How? Where? How much?
We've got b/w and color printers -- you have money on your student account to cover it and we'll show you how to do it if you ask at the front desk!
I am a commuter and need/want to get in the library after hours. How can I do this?
You'll need to get a (free) fob to give you access to the library after our public hours end.

True! We have Solutions staff, Academic Support staff, and Disability Services staff here as well.
