The British sent over 700 soldiers to these towns in order to try to arrest the leaders of the Sons of Liberty and take their weapons. The British had wanted their attack to be a surprise but Paul Revere found out about it and rode ahead of the British to warn people of the attack that was coming. The Minutemen were ready and waiting for the British. Thanks to Paul Revere the weapons had already been moved before the British got there and the British were unable to find the weapons. This battle was considered to be the start of the American Revolution.

The British wanted to separate the New England colonies from the other colonies. They decided to try to take control of New York so that supplies and messages would stop being sent to Massachusetts. Their plan was to send many soldiers to attack Albany, New York, from several directions but they never made it there because of several battles that happened along the way. On September 19, 1777, the Continental army surrounded British troops near ****, New York. The British were unable to break through the Americans’ lines. This battle was actually two battles that took place over several weeks. Fighting for the Americans, Benedict Arnold, who later became a traitor, led a group of soldiers in a daring attack during this battle.
