What is Weather?
the state of the atmosphere at a place and time
What are cumulonimbus clouds?
massive, towering thunderstorm clouds, known for their dark bases and enormous vertical extent
What is precipitation?
Any form of water, liquid or solid that falls from the atmosphere to Earth's surface.
What is air mass?
a huge body of air that has relatively uniform temperature and humidity.
What is a meteorologist?
a physical scientist who studies the Earth's atmosphere to understand, analyze, and forecast weather and climate
What is Climate?
the weather conditions in an area in general or over a long period.
Describe stratus clouds
low, flat, hazy, and featureless gray sheets that cover the sky like a blanket
How is rain formed?
Through the water cycle.
What is Air Pressure?
This is the force exerted by the weight of the air above a specific point, caused by gravity pulling air molecules down
What is a barometer?
an instrument measuring atmospheric pressure, used especially in forecasting the weather and determining altitude.
What is temperature?
a physical quantity measuring how hot or cold something
What are cumulus clouds?
puffy, white, cotton-ball-like clouds with flat bases and rounded tops.
How is snow formed?
when water vapor in cold clouds freezes onto tiny particles like dust/ ice crystals.
What is high air pressure?
an area where air pressure is greater than surrounding regions, causing cool, dense air to sink, warm, and dry out, leading to stable, clear, sunny days with lighter winds and little precipitation.
What does a anemometer measure?
wind speed, and often also wind direction.

mild, pleasant, or cool weather
What are cirrus clouds?
thin, wispy, high-altitude clouds made of ice crystals.
How is sleet formed?
when snow falls through a warm layer of air, melts into raindrops, and then refreezes into small ice pellets as it passes through a thick layer of cold air near the ground before hitting the surface.
What are the layers of the atmosphere?
Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, and Exosphere.
What is a thermometer?
an instrument for measuring and indicating temperature
What is a front?
the boundary or transition zone where two air masses with different temperatures, humidity, and densities meet
What is a Stratocumulus cloud?
low-level, lumpy, patchy clouds appearing as gray or whitish rounded masses, rolls, or waves that often cover the sky in sheets but with darker, well-defined bases and lighter tops.
How is hail formed?
when strong updrafts carry raindrops high into freezing levels, where they freeze and grow by colliding with super cooled water.
What causes wind?
Uneven heating of the earth moves air.
What is a rain gauge?
This measures and records the amount of liquid precipitation (rain) over a specific period
