King: The king was the supreme chief of the city and neighbouring villages, he managed the army, he managed the construction and irrigation projects, he represented the gods on Earth, he managed the food surpluses, he asserted his power by having a palace built for him, and the king's power was inherited.

Elite: The elite advised the king and carried out his commands.

Free People: The Peasants had to give part of their harvest to the king; this is what we call a tax.

Slaves: The slaves received no wages for their works.  They had no rights.
