why did the Lord let the oil burn for eight days?
Because of what took place with the oil. they only had enough for one day. even though they dint have any more to keep the light burning, the Lord was showing them that he was with them by not allowing that oil to run out. it burned eight days straight.
There were certain things that were so deified in the temple that they didn't know what to do with it. (when the heathen came and desecrated the temple) and they knew that they couldn't keep it in the temple because it would have been a reproach.
