What is a community?
A community is where all the animals live together in a particular ecosystem.
What is an environment?
The environment is everything that surrounds an organism and influences it.
What is a population?
A population is where all the organisms of the same species live together in the same place at the same time.
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is an area in which living and nonliving things interact.
Are bugs in a community?
Yes! Every living thing belongs to a community of other plants and animals.
Is water part of the environment?
Yes! The ocean, the Chesapeake Bay, and the James River are all bodies of water that surround and influence the animals and humans living near them.
Can animals of two different species be a part of the same population?
No. A population is often used to keep track of how many animals there are within the same species.
Is there anything on Earth that isn't part of an ecosystem?
No! Every single organism, living or non-living, is part of an ecosystem.
Can animals of two different species be part of the same community?
Yes, as long as they live in the same area.
Is trash part of the environment?
Yes. When trash is left outside it becomes part of the environment and can harm animals when accidentally eaten.
Can population be bad?
Yes. Overpopulation is what happens when there are too many animals living in the same population. The population will eventually run out of resources and have no way to survive.
How big is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem can be as small as a puddle of water or as large as a rainforest!
How do animals and other organisms affect community?
All living things play a specific role in the ecosystem, called a niche.
How do humans affect the environment?
Humans have the power to help or hurt the environment.
How does a population survive?
They adapt their way of living to their surrounding environment.
Why do we care about the ecosystem?
We live in it!
