Who Jacques Cartier?

Jacques Cartier was a French explorer who was sent by King Francois the I to find a safer overseas route to Asia. He 'discovered' North America, traded with the Mi'kmaq, spent time with the Haudenosaunee, took two of Donnaconna's sons back to France to convince the King that he had found land, and in total made 3 trips to North America. He tried to set up a colony, but failed, and moved back to France to live out the rest of his days.
