He tries to explain what warfare is, but Asher doesn't understand. Instead, he gets mad at Jonas for ruining the game, resulting in Asher apologizing to Jonas, since he is the new Receiver, and deserves more respect in their community.

The lighter one of the twins is released, while the heavier one gets to be assigned to a family.
What is “hearing-beyond”? Why does Jonas insist that The Giver keep the memory?
Hearing-beyond means that you can hear music. Jonas insists that The Giver keeps it because that memory is very precious to The Giver.
Description should include some variation of: the boy (and other injured men) begging for water, Jonas being in pain from being injured, and the fact that it is a battlefield/war.
What happened after Rosemary was released?
What does The Giver want after their plan is finished?
He wants to be with his daughter, Rosemary, again.
Why are there no grandparents? What happens to parents after children become full grown adults?
Why did Rosemary decide to release herself?
She couldn't bare the painful memories like loneliness and loss, so she requested to be released.
What is the plan that the Giver and Jonas develop in chapter 20?
The plan includes Jonas receiving as many memories as he can, him escaping the community, taking all of the memories he has with him, and releasing them into the community. The Giver will stay back to help the community cope.
How do Jonas’s parents respond when he asks if they love him?
His parents explain that "love" isn't the correct term, and he needs to use more precise language. They can be proud of him or feel other ways towards him, but not love, since their society has no concept of love.
Jonas wonders what would happen if he accidentally died in the river. What does The Giver say will happen?
The Giver explains that all of Jonas's memories will be returned to the community, just like Rosemary's was, and again, cause an immense amount of chaos and pain.
Explain in detail what happens during the process of releasing someone.
Details should include a variation of: using a syringe filled with a clear liquid that is then injected into the person, causing them to die. When Jonas watched his father release the baby, the baby was then placed inside of a box, and the box was pushed down a chute, similar to that of a trash chute. In the end, we learn that release means to be killed.
