It was called the "heavens" it had pictures divided into panels of the sun, moon, zodiac signs and it included a trap door so effects and people could descend from the sky.

This was called the pit or the yard and this is where the groundlings would stand to watch the play.  They could participate with the actors and these seats were cheap enough for everyone to afford to go.

How did towns people know that a play was going to be held in the Globe?

They would fly a flag above the theater that would be seen on both sides of the Thames.
