Diet is one of the largest treatments and drivers of diabetes, thus altering these diets is of great interest in physicians treating diabetic patients. However, diets are not easy to change. GLP-1 is a gut hormone, and driver of insulin secretion, which is found in low levels in type 2 diabetics. It is also a hormone that signals for a full stomach and makes the stomach work slower. With how useful GLP-1 can be, how can physicians work to increase GLP-1 in patients to help them change their diets?

There are two ways, one way is to use GLP-1 agonists, hormones which can bind to the same sites GLP-1 does and enact the same effects in the body. Another way is to increase high-fiber grain products which have been shown to help with secreting GLP-1 in the body.
