Gold. He twined himself around the little prince's ankle, like a golden bracelet.
What does the little prince walk through before coming upon a road? What does the road lead to?
He walked for a long time through sand, and rocks, and snow. It led to the abodes of people and a rose garden.
How does the fox define "tame"? What is the secret that the fox tells the little prince?
"To establish ties". It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
How long did the water supply last the pilot? What is it good to have when one is about to die?
Eight days. It is a good thing to have a friend, even if one is about to die.
What is dreadfully and courteously?

If the two billion inhabitants of Earth were to crowd together, how much space would they take up? What do grown-ups think they are as important as?
They could easily be put into one public square twenty miles long and twenty miles wide. They fancy themselves as important as the baobabs.
What reflection does the little prince have in the rose garden? So what does he do after he realized the truth of his life?
He thought that he was rich, with a flower that was unique in all the world; but all he had was a common rose, and three volcanoes that come up to his knees-and one of them perhaps extinct forever. So he wasn't a very great prince. So he lay down in the grass and cried.
They have guns and hunt; it is very disturbing. They also raise chickens. These are their only interests. Every Thursday they dance with the village girls. So the fox can take a walk as far as the vineyards.
Describe the pills that the merchant sells. How much time per week can a person save by taking these pills?
They are pills that had been invented to quench thirst. You need only swallow one pill a week, and you would feel no need of anything to drink. With these pills, you save fifty-three minutes in every week.

Why does the little prince think the snake is a funny animal? But what does the snake say he is more powerful than? Why doesn't the little prince agree?
Because the snake is no thicker than a finger. The snake says he is more powerful than the finger of a king. The little prince thinks the snake isn't very powerful, because he doesn't even have feet and cannot even travel.
Who did the little prince talk to at the top of the high mountain? How high are the volcanoes on his planet? What did he use the extinct volcano for? What did the prince hope to see at the top of the mountain? But what did he see?
His echo. They only came up to his knees, so he used the extinct volcano as a foot-stool. He hoped to see the whole planet at one glance and all the people. But he saw nothing, save peaks of rock that were sharpened like needles.
Where does the little prince find the fox? Why can't the fox play with the prince? What is the little prince looking for and why? What will remind the fox of the little prince?
Under the apple tree. Because she is not tamed. He is looking for people, because he is looking for friends. Wheat grain, because it is the same golden color as the prince's hair.
What is the job of the railway switchman? According to the switchman, what are the adults doing on the trains? What are they pursuing? What do the children on the trains waste their time over? What will happen if you take it away?
To sort out travelers, in bundles of a thousand, sending off the trains that carry them right or left. They are sleeping or yawning. They are pursuing nothing at all. They waste their time over a rag doll; and it anybody takes it away from them, they cry.

Describe the flower that the little prince meets in the desert. How many men does the flower think are on Earth? Where did she see them? Why does the flower think people are hard to find?
It was a flower with three petals, a flower of no account at all. She thinks there are six or seven of them, because she once saw them in a caravan passing. Because they have no roots, so the wind blows them away.
What does the little prince think about Earth and its people? Why? Who always spoke first on his planet?
He thinks Earth is a queer planet. It is altogether dry, and altogether pointed, and altogether harsh and forbidding. And the people have no imagination. They repeat whatever one says to them. On his planet he had a flower; she always was the first to speak.
Why does the fox want to be tamed? What must the little prince do to tame the fox? Why is it better for the little prince to come back at the same time everyday?
Because her life is very monotonous, but if the little prince tames her, it will be as if the sun came to shine on her life. He has to sit down at a little distance from her in the grass and say nothing, and everyday he will sit a little closer to her. Because if he comes at just any time, she shall never know at what hour her heart is to be ready to greet him and feel happy.
What makes the desert beautiful to the little prince? What does legend say about the old house the pilot lived in when he was a little boy? What gives the pilot's old house, the stars, and the desert its beauty? When does the pilot finally find the well?
What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well. Legend says that a treasure was buried in the old house he lived in when he was a little boy. What gives them their beauty is something that is invisible! He found the well at daybreak.

Who's the first creature the little prince meets on Earth? Why aren't there any people? How does the little prince feel when he first arrives on Earth? What does the creature offer to do for the little prince? What does the creature speak in?
A snake. Because he lands in the desert, and there are no people in the desert. He feels lonely. The snake can help the little prince, some day, if he grows too homesick for his own planet to send him back to the earth from whence he came. The snake always speaks in riddles.
Why was the little prince overcome with sadness looking at the roses? What would the little prince's flower do if she saw this rose garden? And what would the little prince have to do? Why?
Because his flower had told him that she was the only one of her kind in all the universe, but here were five thousand of them, all alike, in one single garden! She would cough most dreadfully, and she would pretend that she was dying, to avoid being laughed at. He would be obliged to pretend that he was nursing her back to life-for if he did not do that, to humble himself also, she would really allow herself to die.
What does the little prince realize after he goes to see the roses again, after taming the fox? Why is the little prince's flower more important than all the other roses?
The roses in the garden are not at all like his rose. No one has tamed them, and they have tamed no one. He would not die for these roses, because they are not unique like his rose. His rose is more important because it is she that he has watered, it is she that he has put under the glass globe, it is she that he has sheltered behind the screen, it is for her that he has killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that they saved to become butterflies), and it is she that he has listened to, when she grumbled, boasted, or ever sometimes when she said nothing.
How does the pilot feel when he's carrying the little prince across the desert in the dark? Why? So what does he feel like the little prince is and what does he feel the need to do for the prince?
He felt deeply moved and stirred, like he was carrying a very fragile treasure. What moves him so deeply, about the little prince who was sleeping, is the prince's loyalty to a flower-the image of a rose that shines through his whole being like the flame of a lamp, even when he is asleep. He felt the need of protecting the little prince, as if he himself were a flame that might be extinguished by a little puff of wind.
