Petition
A request
Why do we end the Lords prayer with this conclusion?
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
These words joyfully confess that our father is able to do all that we ask in these petitions.
Where does the Lords prayer fall in the small catechism? (first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, etc.)
DOUBLE IF YOU CAN EXPLAIN WHY.
1- 10 commandments
tells us what we must do, leaves us with knowledge of our sin and failures
2- Apostles Creed
tells us who God is and what he has done for us to save us from sin and death
3- Lord's Prayer
a prayer to God now to keep us in this faith which saves us given in the Creed
Faith gets God's attention but obedience activates His power.
What is the meaning of the 6th petition? (DOUBLE if you can give the meaning of the 5th also)
6- What does this mean? God tempts no one. We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice. Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory.
5- What does this mean? We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look at our sins, or deny our prayer because of them. We are neither worthy of the things for which we pray, nor have we deserved them, but we ask that He would give them all to us by grace, for we daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment. So we too will sincerely forgive and gladly do good to those who sin against us.
Amen
Yes, Yes it shall be so. OR This is true.
Why do we say Amen at the end of a prayer?
Amen means that I believe these words are truly heard by my Father in heaven and that he will answer my prayer as he has promised to do in His Word.
Say the Lord's Prayer backwards. (conclusion, 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, introduction)
Bonus 300 points if correct.
Saints are the sinners who keep on trying.
