The Battle of Troy ended when the Acheans constructed a horse of wood, hid inside, and offered it as a peace offering to the Trojans. At night, the Acheans burst out from inside the horse and suprise attacked the Trojans. After the end of this war, the Acheans (including Odysseus) set their sights homeward.

He cursed Odysseus as he sailed away that he, Odysseus, would never return home and, if fate decided otherwise, that he would return home companionless and under strange sails to troubled times at home.
