How does this quote support the struggle of Santiago. "He took hold of the line carefully so that it did not fit into any of the fresh line cuts and shifted his weight so that he could put his left hand into the sea on the other side of the skiff'(pg.85)
Santiago lived a life of fishing which meant he would end p getting line cuts along the way. This is a set back to fishing because now he only had one good hand to fish with. This supports Santiago's struggle because he is having trouble catching fish in the first place and now it is harder for him with a hurt hand.

Page 87 in The Old Man and the Sea he talks about how he wanted to say 100 Our Fathers and 100 Hail Mary's. Pi is all about the religion. He is many different religions and he prays to all of them during his time on the lifeboat.

Why does Santiago eating the raw fish on page 85 support his struggling.
The quote on page 85 explains the suffering he was going through. A raw fish you just caught out of the sea isn't your first choice for a meal. Santiago was weak and tired and by that point he needed something keep him alive.

As we know he already has a bum hand. He was struggling in order to catch the fish and was losing his strength. When the fish came up beside the boat it gave him a glimpse of hope that he could actually catch this fish. Hemingway uses imagery in fluent way that you can actually imagine yourself there.

He was with the fish for days. He also slightly feels bad for it: "But they were sailing together lashed side by side and the old man thought, let him bring me in if it pleases him. I am only better than him through trickery and he meant me no harm." (page 99)

On page 95 of The Old Man and the Sea it talks about how he has to do the slave work. Killing fish is in his blood. Fishing is his passion. On the other hand Pi kills fish out of survival. On page 182-183 in Life of Pi it tells how killing fish is more of murder for him because of the fact he is a vegetarian. These two are different but can connect the two books together.
