What condition is Johnny in after the fire?
Johnny receives severe third degree burns on much of his body. His back is broken and the doctors inform Darry and Ponyboy that Johnny will most likely be paralyzed if he survives his injuries.

The Greasers have all had to grow up quickly and deal with adult responsibilities. This can age people. In their sleep, however, they are not dealing with the struggles of survival and keeping family together; therefore, they may look younger and more peaceful.
If Darry didn't have Soda and Pony, why would he be a Soc?
He would have been able to go to college and get a good paying job and move out of the east side of town
