What is The Panama Canal?
Because Columbia did not allow the United States to build the canal, the US supported a rebellion in Panama. The rebels declared independence and gave the US the right to build/control the canal.
Why did the United States Step in?
Because ships has to travel 13,000 miles around South America to get from New York to San Fransisco, U.S. considered building canal through Central America.
What were the early efforts?
To prevent mosquitoes from spreading diseases, the canal company filled swamps, covered containers, and killed mosquitoes.
How did they overcome difficulties?
An artificial waterway.
