Name this theory:

The continents move because they are part of a series of plates in the Earth’s crust.

Continental Drift

100

Explain the difference between rotation and revolution.

Rotation is the earth moving on its axis.

Revolution is the earth moving around the sun.

DOUBLE POINTS

What do we call the movement of animals from one place to another?

Migration (bonus points if you sing the nemo song)

100

Describe the chromatography test...including the solvent, test mixture, and medium.

Chromatograph separates different parts of a solid mixture. The solvent is what helps the test mixture move (water). The test mixture is what's being separated (food coloring). The medium is what the test mixture moves through (the chromatography paper).

What is the quotient of 2550 / 25?

102

200

Part of the Earth’s crust is divided into plates, some of which are very large and can be entire continents. The plates move.

Name three types of boundaries (where plates touch)

  1. Convergent boundaries:

  2. Divergent boundaries:

  3. Transform fault boundaries:

Name three things that determine which stars we can see in the night sky

Season we are in (where the earth is in the sky)

Distance from the star

Brightness of the star (luminosity)

Large mammals called _______________ roamed the land during the ice age.

MEGAFAUNA

DOUBLE POINTS

Why did the food dyes separate in the chromatography test?

The different dyes had different attraction to the water so they spread out/traveled different distances.

200

What is 63.4368 rounded to the nearest hundredth?

63.44

Convergent Boundaries

300

Use the word luminosity in a sentence.

The luminosity of a star is how bright the star is.

Explain Land Bridge Theory

  • The most common theory about human migration to the Western Hemisphere.

  • When the Ice Age peaked, so much water was trapped as ice on land that sea levels dropped by 350 feet.

  • This theory is that humans migrated across a land bridge that was exposed when glaciers expanded.

  • Lower ocean levels revealed the Bering Land Bridge between Siberia in Asia and Alaska in North America._

  • Nomads followed their food source as they crossed over into North America.

2.    What evidence supports it?

  • Fossil evidence in the Western Hemisphere only dates back to not more than 50,000 years ago. This leads scientists to surmise that humans migrated from Asia to the Americas.

Evidence for this theory includes Clovis Points, which are spearheads made by Stone Age inhabitants of the Americas.

300

Give an example of a substance that uses emulsifier and why we need it.

Salad dressing and we need it to mix the vinegar and oil together. The emulsifier attracts the molecules of 2 liquids that do not typically mix.

300

Lori uses 12 pounds of turkey to make 60 sandwiches. Each sandwich has the same amount of turkey. What is the total amount of turkey in each sandwich?

1/5

Divergent Boundaries

400

What is gravity? Why is it important?

Gravity is a force that pulls us/objects down to the ground. Gravity keeps us from floating away.

400

Name this theory:

Humans may have traveled by boat from Siberia along the Pacific coast of the Americas. Hugging the coastline and foraging for food, fishing along the way.

What is the Coastal Route Theory?

400

Describe this model.

This model shows that the sugar molecules have not evenly dissolved in the water and have stayed a solid. (Plus notice how they spread)

An art teacher makes green paint by combining 2 quarts of yellow paint and 3 pints of blue paint. How much green paint, in cups, does the art teacher make?

14 cups

DOUBLE POINTS

Transform-Fault Boundaries

500

What are some patterns of change that happen in the Northern Hemisphere during the course of a year due to our rotation and revolution? (list 2)

1. Sun can be higher or lower in the sky

2. We experience seasons

3.Length of day or night

500

If you go to the shop and buy your food you are probably not a H_____ G_______.

Hunter Gatherer

500

Do all liquid molecules attract to each other in the same way?

No...different liquids have different attractions/cohesion to each other; some stay together better than others.
