100
student-centered and teacher-guided instructional approach that engages students in investigating real world questions that they choose within a broad thematic framework
What is Inquiry based instruction? For myself this seems as logical as anything in teaching, why wouldn't our approach to children be student centered?
100
Children in class learning, sit in desks, listen to the teacher, do your homework and lots of days off.
What were my initial feelings toward teaching? Initially my idea of teaching was only a basic knowledge of how I was taught growing up and my ideas developing along the way with very little information.
100
educators are expected to know and understand what is right and wrong in the field of education, and conciously remember these while implementing lessons in the classroom
What is NAEYC standard 6b?
100
taking over a classroom of inclusive preschool students and surviving the day.
What is my first "aha" moment? While I didn't set the world on fire, I survived with no major problems and believed this was a great accomplishment on the road to being a teacher.

6c: Engaging in continuous, collaborative learning to inform practice; using technology effectively with young children, with peers, and as a professional resource. 6e. engaging in informed advocacy for young children and the early childhood profession
What are the definitions of NAEYC standards 6c and 6e? As teachers we cannot just teach we also have to learn. Continuing our growth is as important as helping our students with their growth.

By bringing the students' own background and experiences to the learning table, students will find ways to connect to the topic and will create meaning and connection with the text they are reading.
What is a personal connection to the lesson? Giving students the chance to connect the lesson to their own lives will help students retain the knowledge much easier because they see how it affects and interacts with things they understand already.
200
empty classrooms full of music, art, sounds, students work and families
What is my first introduction into classrooms at Kent State school? My initial introduction to the classroom and set up was in the Kent State classroom, it was inviting, student centered and lots of space.
200
Appreciate and support the bond between the child and family
What is one of the most important statements of ethical standards to myself? As a teacher I don't want to just know a student has a family at home, I want to understand what each students daily life and support is when he is not at school.
200
I realized that teachers are different and sometimes seeing what I don't want to be as a teacher is as good as seeing what I want to be as a teacher.
What is the "aha" moment of turning a negative into a positive? This was not the greatest setting and the teacher and I did not see eye to eye whatsoever but reflecting on this setting I don't believe I would be who I am now if it was for this experience it taught me a lot.

C&I 67310 Theory and Practice in the Teaching of Reading (F, S) C&I 67319Diagnosis and Remediation of Reading Difficulties (F, S) C&I 67323 Clinical Practicum (4 credit hours) (SU) C&I 67330Reading in the Content Area (SU, F, S) Individual Investigation (1 credit hour- online) (SU, F, S
What is the beginning of my future plans for continuous learning? I haven't even gotten a teaching job yet and I am going to start the reading endorsement before I even graduate.
300
Developing student ownership of their inquiry and enhancing student interest in the subject matter
What is one of the main benefits to inquiry based learning to myself? This gives student the idea that they are responsible for their learning and how they learn, this will make them feel like they had a part in the teaching of themselves.
300
students not listening, noisy, confusion, lots of after hour time, work and set up
What is my first student teaching experience. This was definitely eye opening for myself as I never realized how much work went into teaching on a daily basis.
300
Respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual (child, family member, and colleague) • Respect diversity in children, families, and colleagues
What is two ethical standard that are in sync with each other? If you respect each child as an individual then respecting diversity will follow suit.

Taking a semester off after my second field setting to reflect on the idea of whether I wanted to be a teacher and if my second field setting defined me as a teacher.
What is the "aha" moment that reflection really works? After taking off a semester to reflect and gather myself, I came back with a renewed excitement for teaching, I was not going to allow one bad experience deter me from my goal.

SMART Board Basics ◦SMART Board is an interactive tool that uses a touch sensitive display connected to a computer and projector, whic allows you to control applications from the display. This workshop will provide information on what is SMART Board, the parts, and the tools available within the SMART Board Application.
What is the first workshop I am signed up for to help me learn to use technology effectively with my students? Technology is constantly changing and evolving, as a teacher I believe it is my duty to evolve and change along with it. You never know when something new will awaken one of your students to a higher level of learning not achievable before.

is a part of human behavior from the moment we are born. Infants use all their senses—seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling—to explore and to collect information. Babies observe and turn toward faces, grasp at objects to put in their mouths, and follow objects with their eyes, all to gain more information (NAEYC Thornton 2003).
What is Inquiry (Investigation)? We all learn from the moment we are conceived with all our senses, it only makes sense that we should continue to teach this way, many modalities will only enhance the learning experience.
400
an extremely tough field setting, filled with an old school teacher with harsh ideas of teaching with some discrimination sprinkled on top
What is my second student teaching/field setting experience? This was an extremely difficult placement for myself, but I learned what I did not want to be as a teacher.
400
Each child needs to know that you respect him as a person, individual of the classroom and that he, his beliefs and his family are as important to you as they are to him.
What is my idea of treating a child as an individual? You don't have to believe or practice what they do as a family but you need to let them know you understand the importance of these things to each student.
400
Starting my field setting late, behind on all my assignments and extremely nervous about when and where I would get placed but continuously telling myself I was not giving up.
What is the "aha" moment that I can push through anything? After my second field setting and the semester off to reflect I realized that I can make it through anything and this was just another small step to becoming a teacher.
400
Observation of other classrooms and observations of my classroom.
What is collaboration with peers to help reflect on my teaching? This week I am spending time observing classrooms of other teachers to steal ideas that I would like to incorporate into my future classroom and teaching.
500
Within the domains, learning at the higher levels and higher level questioning is dependent on having attained prerequisite knowledge and skills at lower levels
What is Blooms Taxonomy? The importance of higher order questioning and learning cannot be understated. We have to learn as teachers that the lesson doesn't stop at the end of the lesson, continue to expand, teach and question at any possible moment.
500
becoming my own teacher integrating my style of hands on, inquiry based learning, with tons of student involvement and the backing of a great final student teaching mentor teacher (a Kent State graduate also).
What is my last student teaching experience? This was a great experience where I experienced a ton of growth as a professional teacher.
500
enjoys and asks for feedback believing it makes him a better teacher and is always professional and dressed professionally and has a great work ethic
What is my mentor teacher impression of my professionalism? The fact that an experienced teacher believed that I was capable of being a professional teacher meant a lot to my growth as a teacher.
500
Charles was a professional in all areas, he was wonderful to work with and I CONSIDER HIM A PEER.
What is the "aha" moment I realized I could be a good teacher? This was the final statement in the comment section from my supervisor.
500
Obtaining my substitute teaching license, applying for the Early Intervention program at Kent State University for this year, and applying for jobs in Northeast Ohio.
What are my immediate future plans to begin my journey into becoming a teacher? The journey begins as soon as I start moving forward.
