Wells describes a situation where humanity has declined far past their state in the Victorian Era. The Eloi are weaker, less intelligent, and idle. This is showing how humanity could possible evolve over a long time.

A large building like a palace made of glass, metal, and stone that is made up of large halls where the Eloi do things together communally.

While traveling to the future, many manmade things rise and fall. Eventually, the only manmade structures TTT sees are the large palace-like buildings which are also sometimes in ruins. Nature lasts through this entire process and doesn't go away.

The working class had to wear clothes that were dark colored and made of strong material like cotton or wool for working. The upper class wore things made of finer material like silk or satin with bright colors because they didn't need to worry about it getting damaged in a factory.
