A direct tax and products that use paper– every paper product had to be verified by a stamp. To get this stamp, a tax needed to be paid. The American colonists absolutely despite this, and protested until it was repealed. However, the repeal in response to protests shows that protest will get what the colonists want.

1777 This was a turning point in the war where the British were defeated at Saratoga, NY. This war gained an alliance with France— who became our biggest ally. The French supplied militia as well as resources. It was a turning point in the war.

1787: A convention made to fix the Articles of Confederation. The original occurred in 1786, Maryland however only five delegates came. They planned for Philadelin Sophia 1787 where 55 total delegates attended. All delegates were men, with an average age of 42. Nearly all were statesmen and lawyers. After a couple of weeks of debate, they created a brand new constitution where their new government was federalist.

1770: After the Seven Years War, British troops were sent to patrol the colonies and live in the house of Boston residents (Quartering Act). There would be spouts of confrontation between soldiers and colonists. In response to a kid fiddling around a business, and putting a piece of paper on the store, the business owner shoots the kid. British officials declare that the shooting of this kid is a legal act and protection of business. This leads to strenuous tensions between the colonists and British soldiers. Later, a British soldier becomes attacked while guarding a business. Other soldiers come together to form a little army to fight against the rowdy crowd, and miscommunication to “fire!” happens. 12 muskets are shot and 5 colonists are killed. One of these colonists was an African-American slave who was freed.

 1767 British attempt to regulate trade. This was a revival of the Naviga Act. The Townshend Acts allow for heavy punishment on smuggling, where a judge places crime punishment without a jury at the place of smuggling. This is a violation of the English Bill of Rights, a nod to the taxation without representation, where the colonists once more find themselves as not being treateEnglishmenshmen. This fueled colonial resistance and gave more members to the Sons of Liberty. Women participated heavily in these boycotts, also leading the homespun movement.

They will petition the King and Parliament to end the punishment against Boston, bring food to Boston, and plan due to fear of being pons taken from the homes of Boston. This fear of being weaponless is the foundation of : the Amendment of America.

1774: Created by the English to punish Boston for their part in the resistance movement. There are five components: Boston Port Act (closes the port of Boston), Massachusetts Government Act (abolished the colonial legislature, and gave government to Britain), Administration of Justice Act (royal officials accused of crime would be tried in England instead of the colonies), Quebec Act (gave control of Ohio river valley territory to the province of Quebec rather tAmericanican colonies), Quartering Act (every residence must house a British soldier). These only go on until those in the Boston Tea Party are turned over.

1783: This treaty recognized the United States as an independent nation. All land east of the Mississippi River was said to belong to the U.S., losing the British colonies to France and Spain. America was forced to pay off all existing militia debts to Britain alongside merchant debts. This was negotiated by Ben Franklin, John Jay, and John Adams.
