The Definitions of the Four Types of Discrimination

- Indirect Discrimination: Is when there’s a practice, policy or rule which applies to everyone in the same way but it has a worse effect on some people more than others.

- Direct Discrimination: Is when an employer treats you differently and worse than someone else because of who you are.

-Associative Discrimination: Is when someone is  discriminated against because of an association with another person.

- Perception Discrimination: Is when is treated unfavorably because others believe they have a protected characteristic, even though in reality they don’t have it.

According to Perception Institute “Explicit bias” refers to the attitudes and beliefs we have about a person or group on a conscious level much of the time these biases and their expression arise as the direct result of a perceived threat. When people feel threatened they are more likely to draw group boundaries to distinguish themselves from others.
