Who was Patrice Lamumba?
The first prime minister of the independent Republic of the Congo, Patrice Lamumba struggled to provide for his country after the Katanga Secession. He requested aid from the UN and was rejected, so he turned to the USSR, resulting in allegations of Communist sympathies. He was assassinated in 1961.
