the Bridge (el puente)
Students in grades K–5 are not consistently mastering grade-level Tier 1 instruction. Data from i-Ready, Star 360, and IAR indicate key gaps in vocabulary development and comprehension. Students struggle to explain their thinking and apply strategies to self-monitor and adjust their learning.
Student Centered Problem
missing 10 percent or more of school days in a single academic year—roughly 18 days, or just two days per month.

CIWP
Continuous Improvement Work Plan
Helps students notice how languages are similar or different (like looking at cognates, false cognates, or sentence rules).
Metalinguistic awareness
If we intentionally build classroom structures that elevate student voice, explicitly teach and model peer encouragement skills, and create consistent opportunities for students to affirm one another, then peer support, classroom community, relational trust, engagement, and belonging will increase—leading students to feel affirmed, encouraged, and empowered.
Theory of Action
is an award given by the State of Illinois to high school seniors at graduation in recognition of attaining a high level of proficiency in English and in one or more additional languages.
The Seal of Biliteracy
Change the playing field; the student learns reduced, alternate, or different content. Typically documented only in an IEP.
Modifications
UFLI
University of Florida Literacy Institute
Designed for students who share the same language background—primarily English Learners and heritage language learners. Instruction is delivered in both languages, strengthening students' academic English and partner language while affirming their identity, culture, and community.
One-Way Dual Language
We have not consistently implemented clear schoolwide structures and systems for vocabulary development and comprehension strategies that enable students to access grade-level Tier 1 instruction across the curriculum.
Root Cause
These plans must provide clear daily schedules, essential school logistics, and independent academic tasks that keep students engaged without requiring specialized subject knowledge.
Emergency Lesson Plans
Extended time on tasks or exams, frequent sensory or movement breaks, and testing broken into multiple sessions.
Accommodations
FAPE
Free Appropriate Public Education
They oversee curriculum alignment, support the implementation of instructional strategies, guide program expansion in their schools, and ensure accountability with federal, state, and district bilingual education policies and mandates.
