Why do you need to be able to tell the difference between AM and PM in the military?

A standard 12-hour clock repeats the numbers 1 through 12 twice a day, which can lead to critical, life-threatening mistakes if "AM" or "PM" is misheard, cut off on a radio transmission, or forgotten.

500

Why is the Phonetic alphabet important?

it replaces individual letters with distinct code words (such as "Alpha" for A and "Bravo" for B) to prevent dangerous or costly miscommunications over voice radio and phone lines.
