How can a character or setting influence the PLOT of a story?
A character's actions or responses to what happens in a plot can change the course of events. The setting is important because it provides the context of where the characters are and the environment they are in. (Think back to Mr. Farnsworth and the blizzard during "Fourteen")

What are some keywords in a compare-and-contrast text structure? How do keywords help us as readers?

What are the most important things you need to include when writing an introduction
Title of the selection, the author (if possible), a short summary of the selection, and your thesis statement/ answer to the prompt

They are used to indicate possessive cases and omitted letters.

What is the main message of a play?
A lesson that is meant to be taught/learned through the play. You can figure out the main message by seeing the deeper meaning of the main idea.
-Analyze the TITLE first
- Make sure you organize the text into paragraphs because many of the questions will ask you to go back to a specific paragraph
- Look at the questions first to see what you need to focus on/answer
-Highlight any unfamiliar words, and look them up to help you better understand what you are reading.
Topic sentences are the first sentence of each body paragraph. Think (R and A in RACE)
Topic sentences introduce the body paragraph and let the reader know what you will be talking about in your body paragraph. Topic sentences must relate to the thesis statement, and support your answer.
