There are four types of this system, however the equipment that Tipton Systems represents most often uses one of the first two types:

Physical Measurement - System measures physical characteristics such as diameter, thickness and weight. These systems can be tricked by tokens or counterfeit coins of similar size.

Sensor-based - Coins pass through an oscillating magnetic field, allowing the sensor to detect the specific allow composition and conductivity.

Image Processing - Cameras or scanners capture images of the coins design, and it is analyzed using algorithms to detect authenticity.

Acoustic/Sound Analysis - This method involves analyzing the specific, natural sound/frequency a coin makes when dropped onto a hard surface.

What is Coin Recognition
