Joe sent Macy a nude photo of himself, believing that Macy would want it. Macy was not pleased and told him to stop, which he did. A few weeks later, you hear about this story from a friend of Macy's. Do you need to report this?
Yes. However, reporting it does not mean that an investigation must be conducted. Your report will bring it to the attention of the TIX office, which will take it from there.

This type of information is an exception to FERPA protection.
Directory information. This includes information that does not give personal information that can be harmful.

One of your athletes was a party in a TIX case. Is it a violation for the TIX Coordinator to tell you the outcome of the hearing?
It would most likely NOT be a violation for you to be told information on the outcome of YOUR athlete. However, it is likely a violation of FERPA if you are told information on the outcome as it relates to a person who is not part of your team.

What document is produced annually and required by the Clery Act?
The Campus Crime Statistics & Annual Security Report.

On a team trip, you overhear your athletes talking about the past weekend. The mood is light and everyone is joking. One person then says "I didn't even remember going home with him until the next morning. I guess we had sex." Is this a reportable issue?
Yes.

Bo is failing Bio. You know that Anna is a rockstar in Bio, so you approach her coach and tell her that Bo is failing and won't be eligible if he doesn't get his grade up to a D. You ask if Anna can tutuor him. Is this a violation of FERPA?
Disclosing the failing grade to another employee will most likely not be a violation IF there is an educational need. Here, that judgment is yours to make. There is a good case that it would not be a violation (unless Anna was told of the F - that would be bad, bad, bad).

What do you do if you learn of a suspected crime?
Report it to: Dean of Students, Security, or your Supervisor.

Before you can tell a student that you are a mandatory reporter, he blurts out that he thinks that he was slipped a date-rape drug at a party last week. He only thinks this because he felt drunker than he normally would have after two beers. When he realizes you might have to report a potential "roofying situation" he begs you not to tell because he is afraid he will get in trouble for drinking. Do you need to tell? Can you mitigate this?
1. OU has an amensty policy. 2. You can make a John/ Doe report in some cases. 3. This is a safety of the community issue; let TIX office determine if it is an issue.
300
This is the campus office where disclosure forms can be completed.
The Registrar's Office.

One of your athletes is transferring to another school. You know the coach at the school well and talk to him about the student. You tell him that the athlete is a good kid, does not get in trouble, gets good grades, but you have heard rumors of drug use. Did you just violate FERPA?
Even though this isn't the smartest comment, this isn't a FERPA violation.
400
True or False: A victim is not required to report a crime to law enforcement.

You and your BFF and fellow coach go to lunch one day. He then tells you that he has a crush on you. You tell him that's great, but you are not interested and do not want to ruin the friendship or professional relationship you have. He then keeps texting you. You do not tell him to stop, but you don't reply. He comes to all of your games and waits for you afterward. You always get in your car and go home without saying much to him. He starts to show up at your practices. You may nod and say hi, but you do not talk to him. You still aren't answering his texts. Is this sexual harassment?
Everyone gets points because the answer is ... it depends. Would a REASONABLE PERSON know that this was unwanted interaction? Was it persistent? Was it severe? This is the standard by which we judge.
400
If a student waives the FERPA protection and tells you that you may give information to any entity in regards to a scholarship, can you?
Not without a specific written waiver.

You hear from an athlete that members of the skating team are ranking members of the surfing team from 1-10 based on their looks. This athlete tells you this because s/he is proud of being ranked an 8.
