How does Scout teach us about the concept of gender in the 1930s. Use story examples!
What is 1. She wears overalls and hangs with the boys; a lot of women she encounters don't like that she doesn't wear a dress. This shows us that girls were not supposed to do the same types of things as boys and that they had to remain proper at all times. 2. She gets into physical fights --even with other boys. Atticus and Jem continually reprimand her for this. This shows us that a girl fighting in the 30s was looked down on even more than it is today.

What is he defines it as a word ignorant trashy people use when they feel a negro is being favored over them and that it is a word that means nothing, ultimately. Why does Atticus want Jem to read to Miss Dubose? How is his plan killing two birds with one stone?
What is he has to read to her because Atticus wants him to make up for what he did to her plants AND he wants Jem to learn what real courage is --since Mrs. Dubose had real courage to try to kick her addiction to morphine before she died. Since his plan accomplishes both of these things, we can say it is like "killing 2 birds with one stone"
