His real name is Robert E. Lee Ewell, a moniker that links him to The South's past and compares him to General Robert E. Lee who fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War despite his views against slavery.

Atticus treats all of them with respect and justice, no matter their race. He shows compassion towards everyone. Whereas Horace shows racial prejudice towards Tom, but acceptance to the white witnesses. Their views are objective vs. subjective.

Why aren't Mr. Ewell's accusations as credible as their potential?
His vocabulary choices aren't strong enough for his accusations to be a plausible source. The word choice (Such as “Mayella was screaming like a stuck hog”.) is insufficient and creates a dry foundation to his testimony.
