What conflict does Scout have with herself?
Scout has to deal with losing her best friend as Jem grows up and gradually stops spending time with her. Her and Jem are beginning to not get along due to the age gap. She needs to decide to do with her time. Aunt Alexandra is also adding to Scout's conflicts by immediately mothering her when she comes to visit.

Describe Aunt Alexandra.
Aunt Alexandra was Atticus's sister who was straight-forward and overpowering in some sense. She immediately began parenting and disciplining Jem and Scout as well as telling, and almost forcing, Scout to dress like the girl that she is.

What conflict does Jem have with himself?
As Jem matures, he's questioning his behavior and decisions. He started pushing Scout away, his best friend, and began hanging around older people. He's trying to became the prosperous young adult he aspires to be.

Summarize chapters 13 and 14.
In the beginning of chapter 13, Aunt Alexandra comes to visit and stay with the Finch's. Immediately, she is demanding and rude which Scout and Atticus, in a sense, don't enjoy. She tries getting Scout to act and look like more of a lady while Calpurnia holds back and backs off of "parenting" the children. Scout starts hanging around Cal while Jem matures and becomes a young adult. Jem disapproves of Scout mocking Aunt Alex and yells at her which outcomes in a fight. Later on, Dill makes an appearance and tells Scout and Jem about his journey and why he isn't going to be there for the whole summer. Atticus and Aunt Alex have conflicts as well as Jem and Scout.

Why was Dill under Scout's bed in ch 14?
Dill was under Scout's bed because he ran away from home and came to see them. He disliked the conditions he was in and wasn't getting enough attention so he decided to go through an extravagant journey, including sneaking out, taking a train, and latching on to a cotton wagon until he arrived at the Finch's house. He didn't care if his family knew he was missing.

What is Aunt Alexandra constantly doing with the ladies of Maycomb? What is she trying to teach Scout while doing so?
She is always with the Ladies of Maycomb to gossip/talk. Whenever it is possible, she tries to incorporate Scout into their conversations. Her hope is that Scout will learn how to talk/gossip with ladies. It is just one part of her plan to turn Scout lady like.

Why do Jem and Scout conflict? What factors play a role in their conflict?
Jem and Scout conflict due to Jem maturing into a proper and polite young adult. He is beginning to follow in Atticus's footsteps and is gaining more respect. While he's growing up, Scout still wants to play and tag along with him. At first, Scout doesn't realize that Jem is growing out of her interests and is finding his own hobbies. Jem's frustration leads to Scout being pushed away, literally and figuratively, and resorting to becoming companions with Cal.

What did Atticus mean when he said "..you know you're a Finch, don't you?" (Lee 117)
He is falling under the influence of Aunt Alexandra's morals. He is trying to tell Scout and Jem now to act in ways that will help the families reputation. This would means it would be okay to be racist if that is what is needed. This symbolizes that he is letting is guard down from protecting his kids from Maycomb's disease.

How are Atticus and Alexandra different?
Although Atticus and Alexandra are siblings, they have different views. Atticus cares more about the Finch's reputation and being role models while Alexandra cares about appearance and what makes the family look good in society. For example, Alexandra didn't like how Scout dressed the way she wanted and decided to make her act more lady-like. Atticus cares more about doing what's right, like supporting Tom Robinson.

First he ran away due to his new father's disapproval of him. Using $13 from his mother's purse he took the train to the Maycomb Junction. Then, he rode on the back of a wagon and walked to their house.

What conflict do Aunt Alexandra and Calpurnia have? How do the kids affect it?
Their conflict results from Aunt Alexandra acting like Jem and Scout's mother figure when she came. Calpurnia believed she wasn't needed for guidance as much anymore and left it to Aunt Alexandra. She believed the kids respected their aunt and her ways of parenting and didn't view Calpurnia's help as significantly. Cal went back to her usual housework.

Aunt Alexandra doesn't want Scout to go to Cal's house because Aunt Alex had different views than Atticus and wasn't as fair and just as he was. She didn't want Scout and Jem partaking in Cal's church because it wasn't where they belonged. Atticus liked the idea while Aunt Alex wasn't fond of it.

In ch 14, why and what were Jem and Scout fighting about? Who started it?
Jem started the fight between him and Scout because Jem thought Scout was antagonizing Alexandra. He didn't like or want her to and decided to call her out and tell her to stop. He threatened her which resulted in a fight that Atticus ultimately broke up.

What were the first two things that Aunt Alexandra did in ch 13?
She told Scout to put her bags in her room and to stop scratching her head. This foreshadows her new role as a disciplinary.

What inner conflict does Calpurnia have with herself?
After Calpurnia took the kids to her church, which contained solely African Americans, she realized that doing housework and parenting the Finch's wasn't what defined her. Although she loved and ultimately integrated and became apart of the family, she was still one with her people. Her inner conflict was debating between her so-called "double life" and how she dealt with it.

To Aunt Alexandra, what makes people "fine folks?"
She believes the longer a family lives in one place, without moving makes them good people. This puzzles Scout because the Ewells have lived in the same place for a long time, but she believes they are not good people.
