What are the 3 main stages of cell division?

Interphase, Mitosis, cytokinesis

100

What are the 4 stages of Mitosis?

Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase

100

What are the reactants of photosynthesis?

sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water

100

What is cellular respiration used for? And what organisms use cellular respiration?

For plants and animals to obtain energy.
100

Which of these use photosynthesis? parrot fish, algae, shark, large fish.

algae

200

Why is the cell cycle important for your body?

to grow, repair or replace the cells in your body.

200

After an ash tree is treated to kill beetles, how can the tree repair the damage from the larvae tunnels?

The tree could replace the damaged tissues through cell division be nearby cells.

200

What are the products of photosynthesis?

Glucose, and oxygen

200

What is fermentation?

This is in cellular respiration when there is little to no oxygen.

200

What are the reactants of cellular respiration?

glucose and oxygen.

300

Why must a cell make sure it duplicates its organelles and DNA before mitosis occurs?

So each daughter cell has all materials needed to function.

300

What is the last stage of the cell cycle? And what is happening during this stage?

Cytokinesis is the last stage. This is when the cell's cytoplasm divides, distributing the organelles into each of the new daughter cells.

300

Where does photosynthesis happen? And what organism uses photosynthesis?

It happens in the chloroplast in a plant cell. Plants use photosynthesis.

300

What are the waste products of cellular respiration?

Carbon dioxide and water

300
What is a heterotroph? What is an autotroph? Which of these are we (humans)?

Heterotroph: the obtain food by eating other organisms- they cannot make its own food (Consumers)

Autotroph: the are able to create their own food in the form of glucose (producers)

We are heterotrophs.

400

What percent does mitosis take up of the cell cycle?

10%

400

Describe what is happening during Interphase.

The cell grows (G1), replicates the DNA (S), and prepares for mitosis (G2). They are growing to their full size and preparing for mitosis.
400

What part of photosynthesis would not be able to perform if there was little to no rain? What would be the long term effect if the drought continued?

The first stage of photosynthesis would not be able to perform because it needs water, over time the plant would die.
400

What would potentially increase the rate of cellular respiration for fish in a fishtank?

increasing the amount of oxygen in the tank.

400
What is the job of the mitochondria?

To create large amounts of energy.

500

Explain what is happening is each phase of mitosis. Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase.

Prophase: DNA condenses into separate chromosomes, nuclear membrane begins to break apart.

Metaphase: chromatids line up on each part of the cell.

Anaphase: fibers connected to centrioles pull chromatids apart into each side of the cell.

Telophase: chromatids are pulled to opposite ends of the cell.

500

What is stage 2 of the cell cycle? Explain what is happening during this stage.

Mitosis. The cell's nucleus divides into a new nuclei and one set of DNA is distributed into each daughter cell.

500

Explain the process of photosynthesis.

Stage one: starts with sunlight splitting water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The chlorophyll is required.

Stage 2: Glucose is produced and oxygen is released into the air.

500

What are the 2 stages of cellular respiration and what organelle does each stage happen?

Stage 1: glucose is broken down into smaller molecules, this happens in the cytoplasm.

Stage 2: the smaller molecules (produced in stage 1) are broken down even more and releases energy that the cell can use for all its activities. This happens in the Mitochondria.

500

What is the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

It is a cycle. The reactants of photosynthesis are the products of cellular respiration. When cellular respiration gives off carbon dioxide and water, photosynthesis uses them and gives off glucose and oxygen, which then cellular respiration uses for their reactants.
