Robert said that 7/12 is in simplest form because 7 is prime and any fraction with a prime numerator is in simplest form. Is he correct? Why or why not? Explain.
Sorry Robert! He is wrong. 7/14 has a prime numerator, but it is not in simplest form because 14 is a multiple of 7. One way for a fraction to be in simplest form is if the numerator is prime and the denominator is NOT a multiple of it. A fraction is always in simplest form if the numerator and denominator do not share a common factor other than 1.
