Briefly explain what Peter Mundy described about the Banjaras when he came to India.
Peter Mundy told that, In the morning he met a Tanda of Banjaras with 14,000 oxen. They were heavily loaded with grains like wheat and rice, He told that these Banjaras carried household- wives and children along with them. He also told that one Tanda had many families. Their way of living is similar to the carriers who are nomads. they own their oxen. Sometimes they are hired by merchants, most often they are themselves merchants. They buy grain for cheap and carry it to other places. then they again put things which can be profitably sold in other places on their oxen. In a Tanda, there can be as many as 6 or 700 persons. they don't travel more than 6 or 7 miles in a day. After unloading their oxen, they turn them free to graze as there is enough land here, and no one there to prohibit them.
