Why does the company want team members in the office 5 days a week?

This decision has been made to foster better collaboration, enhance team cohesion and deliver the best innovation, value and service to our customers and partners and we believe strongly in in-person relationships.

When does this RTO 5 days into effect?

Many of our Dell team members are already working five days a week in the office and we are expecting all team members who live near a Dell office to join these groups effective March 3, 2025.

What criteria determines whether a team member lives "near" an office?

  • The criteria for living "near" an office typically include a reasonable commuting distance (roughly an hour). If you believe your commute is exceptionally long and may impact your ability to meet the expectation to attend the office five days a week, please discuss your situation with your leader promptly to ensure alignment.

  • To determine your commute, Dell's Security and Resiliency Organization (SRO) geo fence information integrates street data from authoritative sources for mapping and navigation. The data is saved every four hours to develop predictive traffic analyses. The drive-time layer is based on road type, elevation, and speed limit, excluding worst-case scenarios like roadblocks and traffic jams, and does not account for alternative commuting options such as mass transit, biking, or walking. The geo fence predictive analyses then maps team members within a 60 min commute to the Dell office based on your home address listed in Workday.

What should team members do if they disagree with being identified as an “onsite” team member in Workday?

  • Effective March 3, 2025, if you live within an hour's commute of a Dell office, you'll have your Workday status (“hybrid” or “remote”) automatically updated by HR to "onsite." If you disagree with this change, you should discuss your concerns with your leader, particularly if you believe your commuting distance is unreasonable (i.e., consistently exceeds one hour) and you'll need to provide evidence to support your concerns.

  • HR will also be assigning you to the closest Dell office. You should speak with your leader if you have a request to change your assigned office.

Is there capacity in all offices for team members to be in the office 5 days a week?

The majority of our Dell offices have capacity for team members to be in the office five days a week.  The list of our offices can be found at Dell Office Metros. There are a small number of offices with limited capacity. If you are working from one of those offices, you'll receive further details before March 3, 2025, on expectations and any additional details.

Will team members have a designated desk?

Our offices feature dedicated team and community neighborhoods. Some of the collaboration spaces and community neighborhoods will be transitioned to new neighborhoods to accommodate the additional team members coming to the office. Facilities will not dedicate desks/workspaces, but teams may dedicate or deploy spaces as they deem necessary. The Facilities team will be working on spaces over the next few months. Updated neighborhoods will be available on MyOneConnect on March 3. We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we work through this!

What does this mean if a team member works remotely today?

  • Hybrid Phase 1 countries: If you opted to be remote or were hired as remote but live near an office, you will be expected to work from the office five days a week. For those who live too far to commute to a Dell office, you can continue to be remote and work as you have been.
    • If you live within an hour commute of a Dell office you will have your Workday status (“hybrid” or “remote”) updated by HR automatically to “onsite” on March 3, no actions are required by you or your leader.

  • Hybrid Phase 2 countries: Continue to be “on pause” while we meet with local work councils, however, many of our team members in phase 2 countries are already collaborating in the office and we encourage you to continue to do so.

If team members continue to work remotely what considerations will apply in respect of career development and movement?

  • Remote team members are not eligible for promotion/progression through the annual pay planning process without SVP, ELT and COO approval.
  • Remote team members will be given the same chance to apply for positions and promotions as onsite team members, but career movement through internal requisitions requires you to work at a Dell office five days a week as all future roles will be hired to a specific Dell office and will no longer be offered as remote.
  • Onsite team members are likely to have an advantage in organizational planning exercises.

1200514

Will relocation assistance be available if a team member decides to move closer to a Dell office?

If you choose to relocate to be in closer proximity to a Dell office, this will typically be at your personal expense. Relocation assistance may be offered based on BU strategy and funding, but this would be in limited cases.

Will office attendance continue to be tracked under this new direction?

  • Current tracking of badge swipes will continue. Effective March 3, 2025, the color code dashboard will retire, and reporting will just show the number of days you were in the office. Individual and leader dashboards will be updated to reflect this change, and all historical color-coding flags will be converted to the number of days you've been onsite.
  • Going forward, all Employee Work Arrangement types will be included in the reporting (Onsite, Remote, Field). If you are remote or field, there will be limited data available as you will likely not be onsite regularly. For team members in Phase 2 countries, the reporting will continue to show as blank, and no badge swipe data will be reported.

What happens if team members do not comply with the new 5-day office requirement?

  • If you do not comply with the new requirement should discuss your concerns with your leader. Continued non-compliance without leader consent may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the Global Progressive Discipline policy.

Will Dell’s flexible culture still exist with this change?

We remain committed to supporting flexibility within the working day. You should continue to work with your leader when you need to tend to personal commitments, unexpected situations or occasions when you need to work away from the office. But, for the most part, you should plan to work in the office five days a week.

Which are examples of when you may not be able to work from the office? It is important to note that these situations should be discussed with and agreed to by your leader to ensure it is appropriate.

Experiencing an illness that could pose a health risk to others.

Suffering from a temporary medical condition that makes commuting or working onsite difficult.

Needing to provide care for a family member or dependent on a temporary basis.

Adjusting in-office hours to avoid peak traffic provided your leader agrees it works for your role.

Specific work tasks or hours of work which requires some level of flexibility that will be determined by your leader.

Does this apply to team members who have a legally required accommodation?

The company understands that some team members may have special circumstances such as medical or legally required accommodations. We encourage you to discuss your situations with your leader to explore possible accommodations. If the medical or legally required accommodation is temporary in nature, less than 12 months, you should work directly with your leader to explore work arrangement options.

How can I reach security if I have concerns while I am at one office?

Our security team is always available. To report any suspicious activity or potential risks you see call security team or email them.

If you are involved in an incident at work requiring immediate assistance (e.g., law enforcement, the fire department or first responder), first dial 911 or your local emergency contact number.
